A dedicated fundraiser from Hartford has collected more than £9,000 for charity simply by running a weekly bric-a-brac stall.

Laura Street, of Mill Road, started out in 2008 by helping her friend, Val Miles, sell a few items an indoor market at the Corn Exchange, in St Ives.

Since then, however, Mrs Street has taken on the running of the weekly stall and has really seen her fundraising gather pace. Last year alone, she raised £2,200 and she hopes to beat that total this year.

As well as the Corn Exchange stall, Mrs Street, 75, also sells items once a month at Huntingdon’s Commemoration Hall.

She said: “So many people give me things to sell which is a great help. I quite often come home and find bags on the door step.”

Mrs Street, who herself is a cancer survivor, says she plans to keep running her stalls for as long as she can.
