1st Somersham Cubs and Beavers went out on a wet, rainy evening last month and collected several bin bags filled with litter from around the village.

Urged on by leaders Georgie Godby and Frances Sewell, the 40-strong group worked their way around a playing field and a series of public footpaths collecting a host of discarded items as they went.

Ms Godby, beaver scout leader, said: “The enthusiasm of the cubs and beavers was undimmed despite the weather. We were grateful to Huntingdonshire District Council for providing us with the gloves, litter grabbers, bags and high-vis jackets.”

For the beavers, the little-picking task will go towards their world challenge badge, which encourages them to work and contribute to the wellbeing of their communities.
