Youngsters will be able to try on replica clothing, find out about 17th Century food and cures, make their own helmet and learn some pike drill - with the reward of a replica Cromwellian coin - at the Recruits Required event on September 1-2. The weekend, part of a regular programme of events at the museum, also features costumed re-enactors. Stuart Orme, curator of the Cromwell Museum said: Its coming to the end of the summer holidays, but that doesnt mean that there is still plenty to do for families with this great weekend event. Its a fun and hands-on way of finding out what life might have been like 350 years ago, during the time of Oliver Cromwell. The event runs from 11am until 3pm on both days, with a small charge of £3 per child. More information is at www.cromwellmuseum.com and 01480 708008 during opening hours.
