POLICE believe a crime spree of burglaries aimed at stealing cars – mainly 4x4s – in two Huntingdonshire villages may have been committed by the same people.

The offences took place between 1.30am and 3.30am on Tuesday, June 15, in Stonely and Kimbolton.

Cambridgeshire police said the first incident happened in Main Street, Stonely, where 200 was taken and the keys to a Ford Galaxy which was driven off but left abandoned nearby.

In the second incident, cash was taken from a home in Easton Road, Stonely.

Steve O’Donnell, 63, who lives at the property said he would be increasing his household security following the break-in.

The 63-year-old managing director of GSN Conservatories said: “The house is gated but the thieves got through a hedge. I’m now looking at erecting a 6ft-high fence.”

Mr O’Donnell, who has two 4x4 vehicles, said he had gone downstairs at 3.15am and noticed the television in the kitchen and lounge were missing and drawers were open.

He then opened his front door to find the contents of his briefcase strewn across the driveway.

Officers believe the burglars may have been disturbed because two televisions were left on the driveway and in bushes.

Mr O’Donnell said: “They took the television controllers but not the televisions.

“I’m sure they heard me coming downstairs and hid them so that they could come back for them later.

“It’s a quiet area and you wouldn’t expect something like this to happen.”

On the same evening, his son-in-law had a 4x4 stolen from outside a property in Carnaby, Kimbolton.

In the final incident, an attempted break-in took place in Main Street, where police believe the criminals were trying to steal the keys to a Range Rover. However, they fled empty-handed.

Det Con Andrew Gaunt-Warner said: “I believe this was a planned crime spree by people who were specifically looking to burgle homes with valuable 4x4 type vehicles. Some of the victims are very shaken by what happened.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or has any information about these crimes to contact police.

“Any information, no matter how insignificant, could be vital.”
