The tenant of The Chequers Inn in St Marys Street, Eynesbury called firefighters after discovering flames in an upstairs room at about 3pm. A crew from St Neots arrived, who then asked for back-up from crews in Gamlingay and Papworth because of the severity of the blaze. In all around 20 firefighters were at the scene. Firefighters were sent in with breathing aparatus to stop the flames spreading to the roof. The cause of the fire is as yet unknown. A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: We are pretty confident we managed to stop it spreading to the roof. Everyone was safe and no-one was hurt.
