The candidates hoping to represent Huntingdonshire on Cambridgeshire County Council have been confirmed, with voters set to head to the polls on Thursday.
There are 17 seats being contested in the district, with more than 60 candidates having put themselves forward for election.
At the last election, in 2013, Conservative domination was checked as the number of seats held by the Tories was cut to eight from the 16 won in 2009. UKIP were the
biggest beneficiaries as they took six seats, a gain of five from 2009, though, following a number of defections in the county, they arguably face a tougher task this time around. Liberal Democrat candidates won three seats in 2013, while the remaining two seats were won by independent candidates.
Cambridgeshire County Council holds elections every four years. he election is scheduled to take place on May 4, and there will also be a mayoral election for the
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority on the same Day.
A by-election for Huntingdonshire District Council’s St Neots Eaton Ford ward is also being staged.
