A fire in a shipping container in Ramsey early this morning (Friday) was arson, firefighters have said.

The 40ft container was “well alight” when firefighters arrived at Factory Bank shortly after midnight.

Crews from Ramsey and Stanground, together with a water carrier from Ramsey, were called out to tackle the incident.

The shipping container, which held carpet material, was allowed to burn out under supervision of firefighters, and crews used one hose reel and one jet to cool the surrounding area.

Firefighters said the cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate and urged anyone with information about it to contact police at www.cambs.police.uk to submit an online report or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
