HE’S TALL, dark and bears a striking resemblance to Sean Connery, and for one night only he will stepping into the shoes of the British secret agent.

After a district-wide search for someone to take on the title role for a James Bond-themed charity night, Huntingdon and District Round Table have found their man.

Danny Conway, 66, of Brampton has agreed to don dinner jacket and entertain guests at a Round Table charity ball at Abbots Ripton village hall on Saturday (May 14).

Former St Ivo School manager, Mr Conway was keen to help out as he is repeatedly mistaken for Connery, regarded by many as the best of the Bonds.

Mr Conway said: “I get it everyday. I am a James Bond fan, and I have always been a Connery fan.”

Guests will be offered the chance to pose with Mr Conway and a bevy of beauties representing the Bond girls in front of an Aston Martin, as a momento of the night.

The event is being held to raise funds for round table charities and good causes. The organisation recently helped to pay for a text-to-speech device for 10-year-old Matthew Robey, who has severe autism.

Mr Conway said he was looking forward to the evening. “I have a good sense of humour and Round Table is a good organisation.”

Organiser Thomas Birch said he was thrilled to have Mr Conway on board.

He said: “The applications we received were of an extremely high calibre. Danny will welcome guests to the charity ball on Saturday and have his photo taken alongside an Aston Martin and a bevy of bond girls.

“Having looked at the figures the other day we are well on our way to make a respectable amount for charity, which is fantastic. Finally, I would like to thank the Hunts Post for their help publicising the event.”
