Community groups have presented cheques totalling £2,100 towards the Mayor of Huntingdon’s charities.
Councillor Bill Hensley accepted the donations – all proceeds of fundraisers – at Thursday’s (January 9) meeting of Huntingdon Town Council.
Members of Rotations trampoline club gave £700 after completing a 30-hour bounceathon at their clubhouse in Cirrus Court in October.
A Zumbathon at the Medway Centre, organised by Debra Cossey-Mowle and featuring about 60 people, raised £716.80. The Reverend Andrew Milton handed over a cheque for £108 on behalf of Huntingdon Town Centre Anglican Churches from its Christmas Wishes Tree at All Saints. And Mike Gledhill, secretary of Huntingdon Youth Theatre, presented £607.87 from their production of Alice in Wonderland in December.
Cllr Hensley said: “It never ceases to amaze me how much good there is in society. ”
The mayor, whose motto for his year in office is “local, local, local” is backing 10 good causes.
