Huntingdon Town Council could give a £5,000 grant to Rural Cambs CAB as the advice service tries to help a growing number of people following the Government’s welfare reforms.

Since the CAB moved to Huntingdon Town Hall in April, volunteers have dealt with an influx of people dealing with changes to Council Tax and benefits.

Nick Blencowe, operation manager for Rural Cambs CAB, said: "We're very busy at the moment and we expect that to continue as we believe there are lots of people who are struggling with the changes to the benefit system that have not reached out to us yet.

"We're increasing access to clients all the time. We're in discussions with RPM Legal in Huntingdon over offering clients free legal appointments and we're always looking for more volunteers.

"Grants like this from town and parish councils are crucial."

The proposal to award the grant will go before the town council finance committee on October 17.
