The forces annual campaign caught 33 drink- or drug-drivers in the Huntingdonshire and Fenland area in 2010. The month-long campaign warns drivers to think of the consequences of driving under the influence of drink or drugs over the Christmas period. There will be increased patrols across Cambridgeshire, with traffic officers carrying out stop-checks, breath tests and field impairment tests. Casualty reduction officer Pc Tony Barrios said: Over the next few weeks drivers should expect a highly visible police presence on the countys roads as we target those who drive under the influence. Our message is clear if you drive under the influence of drink and drugs, expect to be caught and brought to justice. In 2010 there were a total of 121 people arrested for driving under the influence of drink or drugs from 6,547 motorists tested down slightly from 123 arrests the previous year. Pc Barrios added: It was good to see last years reduction but it is always disappointing to catch people driving under the influence. Cambridgeshire Constabulary is committed to reducing the number of drink drivers and we will do all we can to ensure that those over the limit or under the influence of drugs are dealt with.
