POLICE are investigating an incident in which two young boys were approached by men unknown to them in Earith.

The friends, aged five, were playing in a front garden on Meadow Lane on Wednesday evening when a black estate car pulled up. The men spoke to the boys before driving away.

The mother of one of the children is a teacher at Whitehall School in Somersham. The Hunts Post was contacted about the incident by the school’s headmaster, Sean Peace.

He said: “A teacher at Whitehall School lives in Meadow Lane, Earith. Her five-year-old son and a friend were playing in the front garden. A black estate car pulled up and the driver or passenger, both male, asked the boys to get in. Thankfully, they ignored the request. Police were called and the boys gave as much information as possible. The police said they are not aware of any other related incidents.”

A police spokesman confirmed that they were called by the mother of one of the boys and said: “We were called to the address just after 7pm to reports that two young boys had been talked to by two men in a black estate car. The men did not get out of the car and drove off towards Somersham. We are treating this as a suspicious incident and are making enquiries but no criminal offence has been committed.”
