A NURSERY has been praised for improving outcomes for children in relation to learning and development.

Little People Childcare was said by inspectors to have raised the quality of its Early Years Provision since its last Ofsted assessment in 2009.

However the centre in The Exchange, Ermine Street, Little Stukeley was still only graded as satisfactory overall after inspector Anna Davies said a number of improvements needed to be made in order for it get a 'good' rating.

"Practitioners use effective teaching methods such as visual aids to encourage and support children's learning," she said in her report published on Friday (October 12).

"Children are confident communicators using both verbal and non-verbal forms of communication to express themselves. Parents are fully involved in the life of the setting.

"It is not yet good because procedures for assessing risks to children safety are not always robust.

"Although other areas of the premises are satisfactorily clean and hygienic, the carpets in the baby room are not always suitably cleaned and an adequate temperature in the baby room is not always sufficiently maintained."

She also said there were "limited opportunities for babies to develop their physical skills in relation to climbing".
