More than 40 golfers teed-off at St Neots Golf Club on February 27 to celebrate the 90th birthday of long-term member Charles Marr.

Charles, a former seniors captain who was still playing regularly until a few months ago, joined the club, in Crosshall Road, in 1971.

He lives in Eaton Socon with his wife Mary, who also attended the birthday event, which included a nine-hole tournament. Due to the adverse weather on the day, Charles played a few holes in the clubhouse with a specially commissioned set of clubs.

About 60 guests enjoyed a carvery after the golf and a birthday cake was made by the club’s head chef Darren Audley.

“Charles has been a member for 47 years and has served as the seniors captain and on various committees at the club. Most days during the week he can be found at the club,” said club captain Steve Searle.
