Fifty friends and supporters of Natalie Ritch, who was struck down by bacterial meningitis in August, took part in a charity keep fit event at One Leisure, St Ives.

The event, which Miss Ritch started organising from her hospital bed as she recovered, has raised £2,723 for Meningitis Now, which supports people who have been diagnosed with the disease.

With the help of her brother Ollie, a personal trainer at Impressions Fitness suites, and his colleagues, Miss Ritch arranged four classes, a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses and the Cambridge business she works for, face painting and guess the number of sweets in a jar.

“The amount we have raised is amazing. Donations are still coming and we sold an incredible 14 books of raffle tickets,” said the account manager, who is gradually going back to work as she gets stronger.
