THE brains behind last summer’s world-record football match attempt have unveiled details of their latest marathon fundraiser.

This year’s challenge is a 17-hour karting marathon to be held at Caxton on Sunday, August 21, with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Support. The endurance event starts at 7am, with the chequered flag falling on the stroke of midnight.

Organiser Zac Cornish, who began fundraising after seeing his father Chris recover from cancer, said that around 25 people had already signed up, but that spaces for other teams were still available.

Teams can contain four or five drivers at a cost of 800 per team, 400 of which goes straight to the charity. There is space for 10 teams. Mr Cornish, of Hinchingbrooke, said: “I chose karting because it is a brilliant sport that, due to price, people don’t tend to manage to do very often. It can cost around 25 for 10 minutes in some places, and I have got it for effectively 100 per person, giving each driver four-and-a-half hours.”

Last year Mr Cornish was part of a team that organised an attempt at a world-record 50-hour football match in Huntingdon. The players failed to reach their target, but still managed to set a new record of 40hrs 15mins.
