A MOBILE post office service proposed for Catworth if the post office closes 'will not last six months', the postmaster believes.
Alan Kiberd said there had been a post office in the village for as long as anyone could remember. The postmaster said: "The post office and shop are the lifeblood of this village and others around. There has been a shop here for 200 years but it could be under threat if the post office goes.
"All of our customers are elderly and it is those people who will suffer. There is no public transport here and in my experience, mobile post office services are usually discontinued after six months.
"It is up to the local people to put up a fight to try and save us."
Catworth parish council is meeting tonight (Wednesday) to discuss the proposed closure.
