Visitors to TC Harrison Ford, in Huntingdon, were treated to a slice of the swinging sixties on Saturday to celebrate the launch of the new Ford EcoSport.
Cast members from Made in Dagenham the musical, which is being performed in Huntingdon next week, donned an impressive wardrobe of groovy and glamorous costumes complete with iconic hairstyles to entertain customers at the event. The Musical Theatre Company, which is staging the show, brought along some of its lead cast members, the Cortina girls and ‘prime minister’ of the period, ‘Harold Wilson’ to the event where they danced around the showroom, chatted to customers and played extracts from the musical’s score.
The musical comedy based on the true story of the women’s strikes at the Ford plant in Dagenham in 1968 as they fought for equal pay and to be recognised as skilled workers. A smash-hit film in 2010, Made in Dagenham was then made into a West End musical in 2014. The sixties were a time when the Ford Cortina was all the rage and about to become the UK’s best-selling car. One scene in the show celebrates the launch of the Ford Cortina Mark II 1600E, making the Musical Theatre Company cast the perfect choice to launch Ford’s latest model 50 years later.
