Hunts Post readers have got behind our campaign to find Waterstones a new home in St Neots – and the company is set to investigate your suggestions.
Not only have people signed our petition to encourage the company to make finding new premises a priority, but readers have also suggested new locations the firm could use. The company was unable to agree terms for a renewed lease at Barretts in the Market Square and will close on August 16.
Readers suggested premises including the Shoe Zone building on the High Street, vacant buildings next to A.N. Audio on Huntingdon Street, the old job centre in South Street, the former Allders Opticians building in South Street, the second floor of the building in South Street where Leeds Day Solicitors is based, and the premises of Acorn Furniture Centre in Priory Lane, near Waitrose, once it closes. The Old Falcon Hotel has also been suggested, but a Waterstones spokesman said this was beyond their budget. He added that he had only been aware of the Shoe Zone building – which he said is too small for their purposes – and will forward the other ideas to their agent.
