A CEREMONY and parade took place in Huntingdon on Saturday (April 20) bestowing the freedom of the district on the United States Airforce.

The Stars and Stripes were raised outside Pathfinder House as chairman of Huntingdonshire District Council, Councillor Barbara Boddington handed a scroll to Colonel Michael Reiner, admitting service men and women of the 423rd air base group as Honorary Freeman of Huntingdonshire.

Members of the group from both RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth formed a guard of honour prior to the ceremony as they were joined by the RAF Wyton Band on a parade from the Cromwell Museum to the ceremony just off St Mary’s Street.

The group’s commander Colonel Michael Reiner told The Hunts Post: “I was overwhelmed by the number of faces that came out from the community – it seemed there were several hundred people there. We got a beautiful scroll and some great words from Cllr Boddington and it was a lot of fun to march down the high street.

“It was an historic event for us and it was great to be a part of it.”
