Huntingdonshire District Council, which is responsible for Council Tax collection in the area, said it has received reports of bogus callers, purporting to be council employees, stating that if the resident has been a regular Council Tax payer they are entitled to a rebate. HDC has urged residents to be vigilant and, if they do receive a call they are unsure or someone asking for their bank details, to note down the details and report it to the police immediately. Julia Barber, head of customer services said: If customers are due a rebate on Council Tax, the council would send a statement with any credit owed clearly shown. A phone number would be provided on the statement to call to arrange for the credit to be issued. At no time would council staff ask for bank details or money to be paid over the phone in order to get a refund and under no circumstances should be they be given to people who phone up. INFORMATION: If you have any concerns about information requested about council services, contact HDCs main switchboard number on 01480 388388 and ask for the relevant department.
