A RAPIST who attacked a woman in a March home has been jailed for eight years.

Juris Markevics, 29, raped and violently attacked the woman in the early hours of December 15, last year.

The victim told her partner and police were called.

Markevics, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with rape. He denied the offence but was found guilty following a re-trial.

He was jailed for eight years at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday (August 2).

Detective Constable Paul Evans, who investigated, said: “Markevics subjected his victim to a horrific ordeal, punching her in the face and hit her head against a wall.

“He initially tried to claim he was in a relationship with the victim which was not the case and we are pleased he has now been brought to justice.”
