SENIOR officers are still pressing ahead with plans to privatise support services, it was announced today.

The Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Police Authorities’ Working Group met with chief officers to discuss plans to save 73million from the three forces’ budgets.

The plan to outsource support staff using the Lincolnshire police/G4S model was thrown into doubt after the private security firm failed to provide sufficient security staff for the Olympics.

The working group decided to continue to develop a full business case for G4S to provide backroom staff today (August 22) and to assess the ability of the contract to meet the three forces’ requirements.

The full business case will be ready in time for the new Police and Crime Commissioner takes their post in November.
