A CAMPAIGN to reduce domestic abuse over Christmas using a child’s perspective has been launched today (Monday).

As part of the 31-day scheme, Cambridgeshire police has released a poster with a letter to Father Christmas from a child who asks for his father to stop attacking his mother as a present.

The poster will be displayed at key locations, such as doctors’ surgeries and hospitals. It will be supported by a radio campaign from a child’s perspective.

Detective Inspector Alan Page said: “It’s not just the victims of domestic abuse who suffer, for their children it is just as traumatic.

“Often at Christmas we see an increase in incidents of abuse and for the children living within those households it’s a time to fear.

“Every child has the right to feel safe and happy and for some children all they will want this Christmas is for the hurt to stop.

“I would urge anyone who is a victim of abuse not to suffer in silence and take that first step towards seeking support.

“The force has a Domestic Abuse Investigations and Safeguarding Unit (DAISU) which investigates all domestic abuse crimes, meaning victims deal with specially trained officers.”

He added: “The force is committed to reducing domestic abuse and providing support to victims and their families through our partner agencies.

“We hope that by highlighting the impact abuse has on children more victims will feel empowered to come forward.”
