Cambridgeshire police have asked people in the area to remain vigilant and report concerns in the wake of the terrorist attack in Manchester in which 22 people died.

The Government has announced today (Wednesday) that 1,000 soldiers are being deployed on Britain’s streets to support police officers as the UK remains on “critical” terror alert. New intelligence is suggesting that suicide bomber, Salman Abedi, did not act alone and further arrests have been made.

Soldiers have taken up position at Buckingham Palace, Parliament and Downing Street as part of the deployment named Operation Temperer, which is being enacted after security experts warned the Government that another terrorist attack could be imminent. Police forces outside London have also asked for troops.

The Cambridgeshire force has issued guidelines in response to the increase of the security level to “critical”.

“Our thoughts, as I am sure are yours, are with those who lost their lives or were harmed and with the family, friends and communities affected by this appalling atrocity,” read a statement.

It continued: “The current security threat level remains at ”critical” and this is the highest threat level which means that an attack may be imminent following the suspicion that the offender was not working alone. However we must stress that there is no specific intelligence suggesting an imminent threat to the Huntingdonshire area. We would ask you to remain vigilant at this time and report any concerns immediately, either via the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789321, in a non- emergency situation, dial 101 and in an emergency always dial 999.
