HUNTINGDONSHIRE’S two MPs spent nearly �200,000 on running offices in the last financial year.
According to new figures from the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA), Huntingdon MP Jonathan Djanogly and North West Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara spent a total of �112,734.34 and �84,495 respectively on staffing costs, constituency offices, administration and travel and subsistence expenses in 2011/2012.
Mr Vara spent almost �5,000 less than the previous financial year while the cost for Mr Djanogly’s office increased by �17,995.43.
The figures do not include the MPs’ wages of �65,738 or living payments, although Mr Djanogly did not claim any expenses under the London living or additional payments. Mr Vara claimed �3,759.96 under the London living payment.
South Cambridgeshire MP Andrew Lansley claimed �105,937.69 for office running costs in 2011/12 – up from �81,294.09 in the previous financial year. Mr Lansley was appointed Health Secretary in 2010, a position he was removed from last week.
He did not claim any additional living payments.
