A glider pilot broke his leg as he crashed into a wood just after taking off.

The man, in his 50s, had taken off from Sibson Airfield in a motorised glider at about 1pm on Saturday when the aircraft crashed into a wood.

Two ambulances, a fire crew and Magpas Helimedix doctors Nick Scott and Maria Smith and paramedic Simon Standen were sent to the scene.

The pilot was taken to Peterborough City Hospital, where he arrived in a stable condition.

Dr Scott said: “This man was extremely fortunate, given the nature of the incident. We expect him to make a full recovery.”
