A HUNTINGDON firefighter will complete his own five-day Tour de France next month, in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Crew manager Chris Pike will be part of a team cycling from Paris to the lowest pub in England, The Admiral Wells, in Holme, near Peterborough.
As he travels through the French countryside, Chris will be calling at a number of war cemeteries to pay his respects.
He said: “I will be cycling in memory of my grandfather and my wife’s father, who both fought and survived the Second World War, only to succumb to bowel cancer, the third most prevalent cancer in the UK.”
The fund raising challenge has been organised by The Holme Riders, and will begin on September 14. Chris and 13 other cyclists leave the UK for France in the early hours – and begin the first 90-mile leg of the ride as soon as they arrive in the French capital.
Chris added: “I’ve been doing triathlon training for the last 18 months, so that should help. We also get together every Sunday when work allows, and ride about 40 miles, so I think we are quite prepared.”
The ride ends on September 18, when a fund raising family day will be held at The Admiral Wells, including a hog roast and bouncy castle.
