A ROTARY Club’s appeal for musical instruments for children has had a great response... but more donations are still needed.

Adrian Acton and his colleagues at St Ives Rotary Club have been collecting used and unwanted instruments to help inspire the next generation of musicians.

Dozens of items have already been received, including classical and acoustic guitars, electric guitars, clarinets, violins, recorders, a drum kit and even an organ, but more are needed to give to schoolchildren in Huntingdonshire.

Mr Acton said that the instruments they need the most are ukuleles, violins and pianos but that any instrument, big or small, would be of great use to the primary schools involved in the project.

Mr Acton, 62, of Ware Lane, Wyton, said: “We’ve been really successful so far but we want to keep going and get as many instruments as we can.

“Anything anyone has got that they don’t use or need we will gladly take.”

Instruments are collected by the club and then cleaned and serviced. They will then be distributed to primary schools and some secondary school children in and around the St Ives area.

Instruments can be donated at two drop-off points – The Hunts Post, 30 High Street, Huntingdon, or Wellington Wise Estate Agents, Market Road, St Ives – or alternatively Rotarians will also collect instruments.
