A MUGGER was forced to runaway from an 84-year-old former boxer when punched in the face whilst trying to demand money with a “commando style” blade.

The octogenarian ex-professional acted instinctively to punch his attacker's nose when confronted with a 10-inch knife, with a curved blade, whilst walking along Colville Road, Cambridge, on Wednesday, January 4.

The mugger, described as white, slim, 18-20, stumbled backwards and dropped the knife after the 84-year-old landed the deft blow.

The knife was picked up before the mugger, wearing a light jacket with a dark collar turned up, dark trousers and white trainers, ran off towards Cherry Hinton High Street.

DC Sam Constable said: "The victim was scared and reacted instinctively and bravely by punching the robber. I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time to consider whether they saw this happen or the mugger leaving the scene."
