Cambridgeshire Constabulary is warning residents in Hail Weston to be vigilant after reports of suspicious activity in the area.

A number of people in the village have reported being visited by a man claiming that he is going to be doing some tree cutting at a nearby property and is ‘apologising in advance’ for the noise he was going to be making.

In all of the cases reported, police say no tree-cutting followed, so Cambridgeshire Police is now warning people that this could be a scam designed to discover whether there was anyone in, with a view to carrying out a burglary.

Richard Braddick, PCSO for Huntingdon and St Neots said: “Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity or callers to your property. Ask for ID and a company name, if they cannot supply these or you are unsure if the ID is genuine do not let them in.

“If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours and they are constantly getting tradesman and visitors please call on them to make sure all is in order or contact 101.”
