A FAULT in a high-voltage cable was to blame for a power cut that blacked out much of the Huntingdon area for up to 25 minutes last evening (Tuesday).

A spokesman for UK Power Networks (as what used to be EDF Energy Networks has been known since it was sold in July) said today: “Power was interrupted to several thousand customers in the Huntingdon area and surrounding villages from 10.09pm last night (Tuesday).

“UK Power Networks restored supplies in stages, with the final customers having power back by 10.34pm.

“The cause was a fault on a high voltage overhead power line, and we would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
