A BUSINESSMAN who played a key role in rescuing a domestic appliance giant following the recession of the 1990s has chosen the tentative recovery from the 2000s recession to launch a business consultancy in St Neots.

Steve Holton was then marketing director of Peterborough-based General Domestic Appliances Limited, then owners of the market-leading Hotpoint, Creda, Cannon and GEC brands.

He plans to use that and the rest of his experience in Board and Senior Executive positions in many well known national and international companies to help businesses steer through the commercial challenges of the current economic climate.

He aims to help businesses accelerate their competitive advantage and assist public sector organisations to apply commercial principles to improve efficiencies and effectiveness.

He said: “The global economy has experienced unprecedented volatility over the last two years, leaving many organisations with uncertain futures.

“For most, the immediate and direct effect of this changing time has been the need to cut significant costs to remain competitive or to simply match overheads to a lower income.

“However, economic upheaval can create real commercial opportunities but few can yet see or define them because they are still evolving as markets start to settle down.”

Mr Holton, who has lived in St Neots for over 20 years, suggests that now is the time for organisations to exploit their capabilities and strengths and be at the forefront of that market change, influencing its shape and thus stealing a significant competitive advantage.

He founded Coleridge Consulting Limited, of which he is managing director, last month. His associate team includes individuals who held senior positions in private and public sector organisations
