THREE consortia have been shortlisted to work with Papworth Hospital on 165million plans to relocate the hospital onto the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, close to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

They are: Apex Health (John Laing Investments Limited, Laing O’Rourke Construction Limited, Interserve (Facilities Management) Limited), the Bouygues Consortium (Bouygues UK Limited, Ecovert FM Limited), and Skanska (Skanska Infrastructure Investment UK Limited, Skanska Construction UK Limited, Skanska Facilities Services, OCS).

Papworth Chief Executive Stephen Bridge said this week: “There has been a great deal of interest from the private sector in this project, and we are delighted to be working with three of the most successful consortia in this market.”

The hospital said the process of choosing a partner to design, build, finance and operate the new hospital would take place over the next two years.

First, the three shortlisted consortia will work with the Trust to develop interim bid submissions. The submissions will be evaluated and two of the consortia will be invited to move to the next stage.

Further detailed work is then undertaken with the two remaining consortia before a contract between the hospital trust and the preferred bidder is signed, which it is expected to be in late 2012. Construction is expected to be complete by late 2015.
