IN recognition of the golfer who scored a hole-in-one at the seventh hole with a seven iron on 7.7.07, The Hunts Post will be sponsoring the same hole at a business-focused charity golf day at Brampton Golf Club in September.

The event is being organised for the Papworth Trust in aid of the state-of-the-art Saxongate centre in Huntingdon town centre by business adviser and coach Mike Yates.

Up to 22 teams of four can enter the event on Monday September 10, when the £55-per-person entry fee covers 80 holes of gentle-ish exercise on one of the east of England's finest courses, refreshments on arrival, buffet dinner, green fees, prize-giving and charity auction. The golf club will make the driving range free for practice before the event, so there will be few excuses for losing side-bets on hooks and slices.

Following the shotgun start at noon, there will be a fourball better-ball format stableford points competition with up to 88 players in teams of four with the best two scores to count. There will be a handicap allowance of three-quarters of certified handicap. Men take shots from their index, and ladies from theirs. Score cards will be issued in special am/am format.

Mike Yates reckons participants will be able to leave by around 7pm if they wish.

Papworth Trust's mission is for disabled people to have equality, choice and independence. The charity provides a number of key services, including employment, training, housing, advice and rehabilitation, to about 10,000 disabled people each year.

The recently-opened Saxongate Community Learning Centre, in Hartford Road, Huntingdon, is a fully-accessible facility for meeting, learning and advice. It creates opportunities and offers support for adults regardless of age and ability.

Saxongate is also available for the whole community to use. There are IT suites, meeting and conference facilities, an art room, a state-of-the-art training kitchen, built to the latest standards of accessibility, allowing disabled people to access the facilities with independence and equality, alongside other members of the community.

The public appeal, launched in June 2005 and supported by The Hunts Post, raised the £2 million needed to create the centre. However, although Saxongate aims to be self-funding in just three years' time, support is still needed to help the centre get up and running in the meantime.
