ANOTHER jobs boost has been felt in Huntingdonshire after a well-established St Ives firm announced it had created 20 jobs...with more to follow. The Hunts Post reported last week that six jobs had been created at a factory in Sawtry and 10 at a life sciences firm in St Ives. Now Mick George Ltd, based in Second Drove, off Meadow Lane, has also been bucking the economic downturn. Despite the effects of the recession, the company says it has seen business grow, resulting in the creation of 20 new posts over the past few months. The company puts its success down to customer service and a recent marketing campaign. Jon Stump, Mick George's finance director, said: "We have worked extremely hard over the last 18 months proactively promoting our business and the services we offer in construction and waste, which has generated additional opportunities for us and created new posts in recent months to enable us to cope with the workload." The new posts are in sales and administration as well as the operational side of the business. Although all 20 posts in St Ives have now been filled, a company spokesman said there would be further job opportunities later in the year. Mr Stump said: "We have received an extraordinary number of applications for all of these positions. With unemployment high and job vacancies extremely limited, this is bound to happen. "The market remains a tough operating environment but there are many positive signs. We continue to emphasise to all our employees the importance of good customer service, and we continue proactive developments to ensure we remain on top of our game." He added: "We hope this could mean that we will need to expand our workforce further to cope with a future influx of work as we expand our operations and locations further.....watch this space.
