The application will be determined by Huntingdonshire District Councils licensing sub-committee at a meeting in Huntingdon next Tuesday, November 20. Shell UK Products Limited also wants to sell late night refreshments between 11pm and 5am. The parish council points out that the licensed hours of one High Street pub the Vine were cut back in 2008/09 because of a serious problem with anti-social behaviour, which was also associated with people who had bought food at the service station before returning to the High Street. Since the Vines hours were cut, the anti-social behaviour had diminished. However, with the freely-available sale of alcohol at the Shell service station after the licensed premises close, there is every likelihood of the problem returning on an even larger scale, the parish council has told HDCs licensing officers. Shell points to its plans for high-quality CCTV, combined with a Challenge 25 policy on checking the age of people buying alcoholic drink.
