THE Luminus Group, social landlord to 30,000 people, mostly in Huntingdonshire, has won so many employment awards itself since its creation eight years ago as Huntingdonshire Housing Partnership that it is a natural sponsor for the Employer of the Year category.

Group chief executive Chan Abraham, who prides himself on inspirational leadership, said: "The Luminus name is well recognised throughout the region and we like to reinforce the message that we are here to provide high quality affordable homes and customer-focused services in the communities we serve.

"We recognise that local businesses play a huge part in providing sustainable communities and that many of our tenants work within these companies. By sponsoring these awards we are raising the profile of Luminus and showing our support for the local area.

"Luminus's motto "demonstrating a more excellent way of doing business" is upheld throughout everything that we do. Leading by example, we want to encourage other businesses in the area to do the same. This, in turn, will raise the profile of the local area and help develop sustainability for the future," he added.

"Seen by many as one of the most progressive businesses in the UK, Luminus leads the way in socially responsible business in eastern England, focusing on providing homes, employment and real estate services, and building sustainable communities."

In the past year, the group has acquired two new arms of the business - Luminus Suregas, a gas servicing company, and Ferry Project, a charity that supports the homeless.

"The group is consistently developing and we continue to build sustainable communities," Mr Abraham explained.

Last week, in partnership with builders' merchant Travis Perkins, it opened a new depot in Huntingdon to improve maintenance services for 7,000 homes in the district. The coming year will see the completion of new affordable homes across Cambridgeshire and in Milton Keynes.

"We will continue to promote the various projects we have instigated," Mr Abraham said. "These include our award winning Neighbourhood Wardens, who work proactively to help develop sustainable communities within Huntingdonshire. This includes helping to combat fly-tipping and graffiti.

"In 2006 we achieved funding from the Big Lottery Fund and Help the Aged to provide an innovative activities and transport project called 'Out & About'. In 2007 this exciting project continues to serve the needs of older and vulnerable people throughout Huntingdonshire.
