RWE npower has announced plans to invest \u00A3100million in Little Barford Power Station to cut CO2 emissions from the station by about 40,000 tonnes a year. The multi-million pound programme includes upgrades for the station's two existing gas turbines to make them greener, and allowing the station to increase its potential output to around 700MW - enough power for around 800,000 homes. The work is expected to be completed by late 2012. The station currently generates 680MW of electricity and employs 65 staff. Kevin McCullough, chief technical officer for RWE npower, said: "Modern gas-fired power stations are already the cleanest fossil fuelled power stations. This project will increase power output as well as cutting the station's carbon footprint - ensuring we will be in the best position to provide reliable power generation into the future." Work will also include an upgrade of the station's control system.
