DATES have been set for businesses to find out more about plans that could pave the way for substantial investment in Huntingdon town centre.

The meetings will provide more information about the proposed Business Improvement District (BID) for Huntingdon, a scheme that would see all town centre businesses contribute towards a pot of money to spend on things such as improvements, marketing, crime prevention or street wardens.

The meetings, which take place at the Old Bridge Hotel, will focus on different business sectors and will also look at projects that could be included in a business plan for the scheme.

On Monday, April 16, there will be meetings for national retail (10am), office and commercial (1pm) and a general meeting open to all sectors (3pm). On Wednesday, April 18, there will be another general meeting (1pm), food, drink and leisure (4pm) and independent retail (6pm).

The BID would allow Huntingdon to collect up to 250,000 a year for five years to spend on projects and services above and beyond those supplied by local authorities. In order for the BID to be set up, businesses in the town centre area would have to vote in favour of the scheme later this year.
