HUNTINGDON business advisor Michael Mealing has been appointed as the chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses East of England Policy Committee.

Mr Mealing takes over from former chairman Ron King, and will have responsibility for all six East of England counties and Peterborough, representing 18,000 members.

He is the owner and manager of Magis (UK) Ltd, a business advisory service and has helped more than 2,000 people in Cambridgeshire start their own business in the past 10 years.

Mr Mealing said: "It is a privilege to have the opportunity to play a leading role in representing the small businesses in our region and the two other FSB regions in the East of England.

"That is a total of 18,000 members to represent in discussions with senior politicians and civil servants. In these difficult times it is particularly important that decision makers are aware of and understand the views of independent and local businesses.
