WORK has started to convert the site of Ramsey’s art deco Grand Cinema into a library learning centre, a community information centre, 22 apartments and two houses.
Huntingdon-based social landlord the Luminus Group has begun work with Bourne-based builder FE Peacock to transform the former picture house on Great Whyte, which has been disused for some time.
The developers say the housing will meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 – which is 25 per cent above the standard building regulations specification for energy performance.
FE Peacock managing director Karl Hick said: “This redevelopment will give the site a new lease of life and provide local residents with much-needed facilities and good quality, energy-efficient housing.”
Luminus chief executive Chan Abraham added: “We all look forward to seeing the transformation of the former Ramsey Grand into a modern and dynamic facility for the local community.”
