Sealed Air sponsors the award for Sustainable Development. Andrei Stoddard tells Lisa Hanlon why sustainable development is vital to good business. SEALED Air is a leading global manufacturer of a wide range of food and protective packaging materials and systems. The company's best-known brands include Bubble Wrap cushioning, Jiffy protective mailer, and Cryovac food packaging products. Andrei Stoddard, Sealed Air's European supply chain director of food solutions, located at St Neots, said: "Sustainable development is a key to growth and profitability for all businesses and we consider it is central to the success of our company. "Our vision is to be the global supplier of choice for solutions, products and services that improve our customers' bottom line. We aim to be an exceptional company for our customer, employees and communities." The company prides itself on taking a four-step approach to sustainable development which covers the key areas of innovation, education, collaboration and optimisation. Mr Stoddard said: "Sealed Air has an extensive network of 35 package design and development laboratories located in 22 countries on six different continents. These labs interconnect to enable customers to have access to the same level of design expertise and resources anywhere in the world. "We have always been at the leading edge of the latest packaging trends through our depth of experience and industry-leading investment in research and development. "Sealed Air does much more than just provide packaging materials. We work very closely with our customers to determine what problems we can solve through the development of new and innovative automated packaging solutions. We also operate a long-standing world class manufacturing programme which has been an integral part of our culture of continuous improvement." Sealed Air originated the Sustainable Development award and is a long-term sponsor: "Sealed Air is proud of its association with The Hunts Post Huntingdonshire Business Awards and its sponsorship of the Sustainable Development award in particular. We started sponsorship of this award because we wanted to encourage all businesses to build the concept of sustainability into every aspect of their business and to use the high profile of these awards to spread this message. We hope the judges will look for an approach, from those entering the awards, which looks at the whole product cycle and even the whole supply chain in term of its impact on the environment, rather than a narrow focus on one part of the operation. We know that a lot of companies are putting a tremendous effort into these areas and we appeal to them to enter and let the world know how well they are doing."
