STEADY growth over the last year has enabled a Huntingdon engineering company to invest in sophisticated new machinery, as well as taking on additional employees.

Stonehill Engineering, on Stukeley Meadows Industrial Estate, recently installed a CNC machining centre which increased the company’s capacity to meet external machining requirements by 25 per cent

The increase in business over the last 12 months has also allowed the company – part of Dr Mike Ashmead’s Encocam Group – to employ two new full-time staff members to meet the increased demand.

The equipment, which has already been set up to produce components, is a notable purchase for the company, as it is only one of a handful of machines of its type and size to be sold by its manufacturer in this country.

The CNC machining centre will be used to achieve quality precision engineering. With a myriad of possible applications, it mills, measures and drills at high speeds and remarkable rates of accuracy.

Production manager John Pease, pictured with his new machine, said: “Business at Stonehill Engineering has been booming, and for us to keep moving forward it is necessary to invest in the latest quality machinery.

The purchase of our new CNC machining centre is a crucial stage in our plans to continue expanding our business and meet increasing client demands.”

With over 22 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry, Stonehill Engineering specialises in CNC milling and turning, injection moulding and mould tool-making, all undertaken on a sub-contract basis.
