ASPIRING entrepreneurs wishing to start up a business in Huntingdonshire can get support through an initiative launched by the district council.
Outset Huntingdonshire, an initiative started as part of Huntingdonshire District Council’s commitment to support and develop the local economy, will provide range of pre and post start-up support, one-to-one sessions, mentoring and e-learning.
Stacey Pike will be leading the project, delivered by enterprise provider YTKO, which is open to all Huntingdonshire residents with a business idea.
Outset comes after a report by company formation specialists Duport showed that the net growth of companies between July and September last year was down from same quarter for the previous year - 43 compared with 64.
The figures showed that the same number - 118 - of businesses were set up in the town the quarter three of the last two years but the number of companies folding rose from 54 to 75 in 2012.
The Duport numbers also highlighted that Huntingdon had more companies started by directors under 25 and over 65 than the rest of the country.
Jason Ablewhite, executive leader of HDC, said: “Huntingdonshire has a well-established tradition of entrepreneurialism among its residents and self-employment, coupled with advice and support, offers a real option for many people.
“This programme will arm them with the information, knowledge, tools and, most importantly, the confidence to take that first step.”
