PAPWORTH Hospital, one of the UK’s leading specialist centres for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disease, has been recognised as one of the best healthcare employers in the country in this year’s Healthcare 100 list.

PAPWORTH Hospital, one of the UK’s leading specialist centres for the diagnosis and treatment of heart and lung disease, has been recognised as one of the best healthcare employers in the country in this year’s Healthcare 100 list.

The list, based on the results of a staff survey, is published by the Health Service Journal and Nursing Times and supported by the Department of Health and NHS Employers. Papworth was named as being in the top 40 best NHS places to work.

HR director Elizabeth Horne said: “We are delighted to be recognised as a top healthcare employer. Everyone who works at Papworth contributes to our success, and it is vital that our staff feel valued, confident and competent in their role. This excellent result demonstrates that we have high standards for our staff and we offer a high-quality environment for teaching, training and developing our staff in return.”

Alastair McLellan, group editor, Health Service Journal and Nursing Times, told Papworth: “This is a tremendous achievement which reflects extremely well on your employment practices and as a reflection of how your employees feel about their place of work.”

Staff at Papworth treat more than 22,000 inpatient and day cases and over 48,000 outpatients each year from across the UK. The hospital, which is due to move to the Addenbrooke’s bio-medical campus in Cambridge in 2013, has established a reputation for innovation and leading edge research and carried out the UK’s first successful heart transplant in 1979.
