THE Cambridgeshire County Council education office, in Huntingdon, will go up for auction on Wednesday (September 18) after being vacant for more than four years.

Gazeley House, sold by the county council in 2009, now belongs to Clegg Developments, which bought the Grade II-listed building, in Prince's Street, as part of The Walks development.

The three-storey property, which includes the two-storey adjoining Gazeley Cottage, had been marketed by Barker Storey Matthews for over a year but will be auctioned by Allsop, on September 18, with a guide price of £260,000.

The auction will take place at The Cumberland Hotel, Great Cumberland Place, London, and Barker Storey Matthews has been showing potential buyers around the property.

A spokesman said: "Although we've had a lot of interest, buyers have backed out.

"Clegg Developments would welcome a restaurant at the building but do not want to see a pub or a club due to the number of homes close by."
