CAMBRIDGE Building Society is looking for two non-executive directors to replace two who are retiring.

The role involves challenging existing thinking and helping the society to develop its policies and grow its business. A non-exec is completely independent of the company's existing management and as such is capable of seeing issues in a broad perspective.

Although there is no day-to-day involvement, non-execs' legal responsibilities, duties and potential liabilities are the same as their executive colleagues.

Chairman Ian O'Reilly said: "The Cambridge is similar to most businesses in that our aim is to grow sales, reduce costs, increase market share and give great customer service. Our current team of non-execs is critical in helping us to meet those aims.

"They must also share the society's ethos of remaining mutual and independent and maintaining the society's strong links with the community," he added.

"Of the two non-execs who are retiring, one has specific accounting and audit skills and the other professional experience within the local and regional housing market, as well as an excellent understanding of customer service. We would expect any replacements to come similarly well equipped with appropriate skills.

"The posts come with a time commitment of around a day and a half a month and will be filled after a rigorous selection process. In return, the Cambridge can offer a fee of £18,000 per annum and the opportunity for excellent professional development."
