BUSINESS leaders, educationists and Huntingdonshire District Council have joined forces in a bid to predict where skill-shortages are likely to appear over the coming decade.

Huntingdonshire Chamber of Commerce, Alconbury Airfield owners Urban&Civic, Huntingdonshire Regional College and the council are jointly organising a free conference next month in the hope of influencing the future provision of training and skills support for local businesses.

"Ten years ago, the internet barely existed, e-mail was optional, and e-commerce was unheard of," the organisers say. "What challenges will businesses face in the next 10 years?"

Although the four-hour event, in HDC's Huntingdon Civic Suite, between 8am and noon on Wednesday, March 21, is free, places need to be booked in advance.

As well as contributing to the skills debate and networking with the sponsors, delegates will get the chance of free support and advice, will hear about some of the future business opportunities expected in the district, and will get an update on U&C's Alconbury Enterprise Zone.
