BOOKMAKER William Hill could be set to relocate in Huntingdon town centre to take the former Colemans premises on the High Street.
The company, which already has two shops in the town, has applied for permission to change the use of the corner plot next to the Cromwell Museum.
If approved by Huntingdonshire District Council, the bookmakers would move from its existing premises on George Street, which could lead to the creation of jobs, said a spokesman.
She said: “The application is for relocation from our nearby premises, which are smaller and out of date.
“We inherited the licence from a previous bookmaker, but moving to new premises will enable us to offer our customers better facilities: more screens and better technology.
“It could even lead to the creation of a job or two.”
The application to HDC is for the 116-square-metre site to change from A1 retail use to A2 financial and professional services. Minor internal alterations would be made, a satellite dish and aerial fitted and shop signage erected, if approved.
A decision from HDC is expected by January 18, 2012.
The Grade II-listed premises are owned by stationers The Coleman Group, which vacated them in April, downsizing into smaller premises on Grammar School Walk and leaving the High Street-facing plot vacant.
William Hill also has premises in Newtons Court in Huntingdon, and shops in St Ives and St Neots.
